Project Model
Jibu’s hybrid approach stimulates responsible economic growth and independence. Through local entrepreneurship Jibu produces safe drinking water and supplies other essential products (eg. liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), fortified porridge) and sells them at affordable prices in the communities served.
Jibu’s goal is to launch a network of independent franchise owners who, are poised to revolutionize the African landscape.
The Jibu Water Purifying Process
Jibu uses primarily ultra-filtration based water treatment systems or hybrid reverse osmosis-based water treatment systems. Jibu optimizes selection and adaptation for low energy consumption, low water waste, and ease of maintenance.
Our Impact
Jibu supports local communities by creating multiple jobs and economic growth. Jibu’s model finances, equips, and trains community entrepreneurs to launch and grow essential service franchises, with drinking water as the anchor product. Jibu’s core innovation - blending microfinance with franchising - has enabled rapid adoption and deep resilience across fragile markets. Using a bottom-up approach, it creates value generation for essential services while keeping services affordable.
Jibu measures impact by tracking the quantity and quality of safe water sold, number of jobs created, number of women and youth launched as entrepreneurs, amount of CO2 saved, and the number of new business owners launched. The tools used to measure this are surveys, interviews, water meters, and sales reports. Jibu’s KPIs focus on performance that is as relevant to business growth as to social impact.
